I work in a specialized area of software: drivers, file systems, audio engines, and network services. I have been doing this for over 25 years — 13 years of that at Intel, where I architected display drivers and partnered with Microsoft to build the display driver for the first-generation HoloLens — and since 2018 as an independent consultant. Today I also bring AI into the solutions that I develop: I build MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers and AI agents that let assistants like Claude control, diagnose, and support desktop products, and I use AI-assisted workflows to ship native software faster. What clients hire me for: • Windows drivers and system components: virtual printer drivers and port monitors, virtual displays (IddCx), Windows services, and MSI installers built with WiX • Cloud drives and virtual file systems: for TaxDome, I improved the stability and reliability of their Dokany-based cloud drive and designed their print-to-cloud feature end to end — a v3 printer driver to upload printed output to cloud drive • Network and security clients: feature development on Lookout's SASE traffic-steering agent, including proxy auto-config (PAC) support, connectivity across Modern Standby transitions, and client diagnostics reporting to the cloud • Audio software: I direct the development of FxSound, a Windows audio enhancement app built on the JUCE framework with a proprietary DSP engine, an open-source application with more than 50M downloads • macOS: printer drivers, CUPS backends, and Swift/SwiftUI applications • AI integration: for FxSound I built an MCP server so AI assistants can control the app and diagnose audio issues, deployed an AI support agent on the product's Discourse forum that answers from years of resolved threads, and set up AI code review on GitHub pull requests. With AI-assisted triage we closed 108 open issues in five months. If you want AI in a desktop product — shipped features, not a demo — that is now part of what I do.
