James J.
HVAC and Energy specialist : Title 24, ResCheck, ComCheck, Manual JSDT
Not all Manual JSD and Energy Code services are created equal! Saving a few dollars now could cost you a lot later on. That's why you should choose me for all of your energy compliance or HVAC design needs. If you are an architect, mechanical engineer or contractor doing HVAC projects, let me do the tedious code compliance documentation for you! I use Wrightsoft to produce Manual J reports based on your plans, either with specified insulation levels or code minimums, as well as Manual S reports based on your selected equipment line (or provide recommendations) and Manual D reports based on your layout or I can provide a layout from scratch. My reports are currently being used by engineers in California, Colorado, Maryland and beyond, as well as contractors in several eastern states. HVAC Design — Manual J, S, D, T & N • Manual J load calculations: Room-by-room and whole-building heating and cooling loads, including sensible and latent cooling loads, based on architectural plans, envelope specifications, and project design criteria. • Manual N load calculations: Commercial calculations based on ACCA Manual N • Manual S equipment selection: Equipment evaluated using expanded manufacturer performance data at project design conditions. I can work with your specified equipment line or recommend options that meet the calculated loads. • Manual D duct design: Supply and return duct layouts, room airflow requirements, duct sizing, and static-pressure calculations. • Manual T register selection: Register and grille selection and placement to support airflow distribution, room air mixing, and occupant comfort. • Optional design coordination: HVAC layouts overlaid on architectural or structural drawings for coordination, bidding, and installation planning. • Optional construction-document integration: Reports placed on your supplied sheet templates or formatted to match your drawing set. I prepare residential and nonresidential energy calculations and compliance documentation using the applicable code cycle, project scope, and jurisdictional requirements. My experience includes the last 5 California code-cycles as well as lower 48 states from Oregon to New York and Florida to Michigan. Services include: • California Title 24: Residential and nonresidential energy calculations using EnergyPro. • Washington: Residential and nonresidential energy forms. • Oregon: Energy compliance reports. • Florida: R405 reports using EnergyGauge or Wrightsoft. • REScheck and COMcheck: Compliance reports where accepted by the jurisdiction. I evaluate how compliance choices affect equipment specifications, envelope requirements, and construction costs, helping your team make informed decisions throughout design. My HVAC and energy compliance work is supported by 20 years of carpentry experience, including many years as a contractor. This background helps me understand framing constraints, available duct space, and installation requirements—and coordinate designs with how buildings are constructed. Don't look any further, you have found the best!
