Johanna H.

Anthropologist, researcher and academic writer

With over fifteen years of dedicated experience in anthropology, human rights, women's rights, gender studies, international development, and politics, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to every project I undertake. Holding a first-class honors degree in Anthropology, a Masters degree in International Development, and a Ph.D. in Anthropology, my academic journey has been deeply rooted in understanding and addressing complex social issues. My doctoral research focused on the militarization of child soldiers within the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC), delving into the cultural factors driving young individuals to join armed groups and exploring their identity formation within these contexts. Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have engaged in a diverse range of research projects that have taken me to various corners of the globe. From conducting fieldwork in demobilization homes for former child combatants in Uganda and Colombia to researching sexual violence against women and girls in Haiti, my work has been driven by a passion to amplify the voices of marginalized communities and advocate for gender equality. Notably, I founded a women's rights charity to raise awareness about violence and discrimination against women and girls, leading multiple short and long-term research initiatives across countries like Iraq, Algeria, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique. Beyond academia, I have contributed extensively to the public discourse on issues of violence against women through my writings, having published over 50 articles in renowned publications such as Pass Blue, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, and Independent Australia. Additionally, my book, "Militarized Youth: The Children of the FARC," stands as a testament to my commitment to shedding light on pressing social issues. In addition to my extensive research background, I possess a diverse skill set that encompasses various forms of writing and research methodologies. With proficiency in report writing, essay writing, academic writing, proposal writing, literature reviews, and news articles, I bring a versatile approach to crafting compelling narratives and delivering impactful insights. Whether synthesizing complex information into concise reports, analyzing data to inform academic discourse, or crafting engaging news articles to raise awareness on social issues, I am adept at tailoring my writing style to suit diverse audiences and objectives. Furthermore, my passion for research is at the core of my professional identity, driving me to explore new avenues of knowledge and uncover meaningful insights. From conducting academic and market research to undertaking rigorous literature reviews, I thrive in environments that challenge me to think critically and push the boundaries of knowledge. I bring a meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to rigorous analysis to every project I undertake. Additionally, my expertise extends to editing, ensuring clarity, coherence, and precision in written content across various formats. Thus, I am committed to delivering results that make a tangible difference in addressing pressing social challenges and advancing positive change. I look forward to working with you!
