Aurora F.

I have a PhD in anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, where I studied sociocultural and linguistic anthropology. My doctoral project focused on indigenous language politics in Quintana Roo, Mexico, and continues work I undertook for my BA honors thesis at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude. Building on my academic career of over ten years, I have extensive experience in academic writing and editing, and have always received excellent feedback on my style and clarity. Writing comes naturally to me, and I enjoy the challenge of perfecting the details of a paper, grant application, or other text. Writing my dissertation was a process which imbued me with a breadth of observational, analytical, and expressive skills. My four years of experience teaching and grading for anthropology classes at UC Berkeley involved working closely with students on their written work, amounting to an intensive training in effective and efficient proofreading and editing. Additionally, I worked in conjunction with a highly respected professor, helping to verify research, compile an index, and copy-edit an academic book which has since been published by the University of California Press. I have won various grants and awards based on the merits of my intellectual vision and accomplishments. I am a native English speaker and speak fluent Spanish, which I also read and write at an academic level. I have experience translating texts from Spanish to English, and editing texts written in English by non-native English speakers. I also have proficiency in Italian and French, and speak some Yucatec Maya and Turkish.
