Nine years building and running backend systems that handle real load. I spent five years as the only developer on a high-traffic travel booking platform — I owned the architecture, the database, the integrations, the accounting, and production operations, and I got search latency down from about 4.4 seconds to 2.3 across a catalog handling millions of records a day. What I'm usually brought in for: Performance and database work. Schema design, indexing, query optimization, Redis caching. Most "the app is slow" problems turn out to be a handful of queries and a missing index, and I'm good at finding them. Queues and background processing. I replaced a cron-driven database queue that had backed up 120,000 jobs with Redis-backed queues on Supervisor-managed workers — the kind of fix that makes a system feel reliable again. APIs and integrations. Nine external supplier APIs across REST, SOAP and FTP, including 20GB bulk imports and reverse-engineering an undocumented C#/SOAP service. I've also designed and exposed APIs for third parties to consume. Correctness-critical business logic. I built a full accounting layer — multi-currency invoicing with reconciliation, VAT, refunds, commissions and supplier payouts. If your numbers are wrong somewhere, I've probably debugged that shape of problem. Working inside existing codebases. Most of my career has been evolving systems I inherited rather than greenfield work. I read before I write and match the conventions that are already there. Stack: PHP, Laravel, Yii2, MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, Vue.js, Docker, AWS, GitLab CI. I also use AI tools heavily in my workflow — mostly for review and orientation in unfamiliar code — and I validate everything before it merges. Currently building Eduvidra, an edtech platform on Laravel 13 and Vue 3 — containerized on AWS behind Cloudflare, with Elasticsearch-backed search, queue-driven processing, and AI features on LLM APIs.
