Madalena D.
Writer, Editor, Translator
I am a graduate of the Fantasy Mlitt at the University of Glasgow, the first of its kind Masters in Fantasy Literature. I am currently editing my neo-victorian fantasy novel and working on speculative poetry. My work has been published or is forthcoming in a number of literary magazines and journals. In 2019, I graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens as an English Literature major with a first class honours equivalent. I have extensive experience proofreading and editing my own work and the work of others, having attended a number of creative writing workshops, some of them at postgraduate level. While studying, I developed a keen interest in social media. For this reason, I attended a university class on the Discourse of Social Media to learn about online behaviours and best practices. Since 2016, I am maintaining an Instagram account with a dedicated following which I increased by at least 1000 followers in 2020, and micro-influencer experience such as receiving Advance Reader Copies of Children's and YA fantasy books to review (ladyofbooklot). Wanting to find new ways to stay in touch with followers, I created my WordPress blog of the same name, managing to double engagement in 2020. Wanting to use these skills to help my local community, I became a volunteer for the Havana Glasgow film festival were I helped create and implement an Instargram marketing strategies, increasing engagement by at least 50% during the festival week. In order to create a sense of community, even online, and encourage audience participation, I co-hosted an online live quiz and created colouring pages for young viewers. From 2021 to 2023 I acted as a Social Media Officer for the University of Glasgow's Centre for Fantasy and the Fantastic. In this role, I co-created and implemented a professional, interactive social media campaign for Tolkien Reading Day 2021 with tickets for all three webinars sold out. I also promoted an online summer school on fantasy literature through creative content creation, resulting in all positions filled, ensuring significant funding for the Centre. I am an experienced freelance translator. Since 2014, I have applied my excellent skills in Greek and English to help the International Dog Rescue Foundation K9Aid and the stray animal shelter of my hometown, I helped with the adoption of many dogs in Greece and abroad. My most recent translation project was a best-selling short story collection. I have also translated from English to Greek or Greek to English for websites, particularly in Hospitality and Education. For the past three years, I have been an SEO Copywriter for the epicstream.com website with several of my articles becoming featured snippets on search engines. I am interested in writing content for blogs and websites, undertaking translations from Greek to English and vice versa, as well as proofreading and editing any type of text, particularly literature. I am also happy to help with social media.
