Cara D.

Hi, I'm Cara! I'm a developmental fiction editor. I love working with authors and creative people! I have a decade of experience providing developmental editing. I am happy to edit any length of story. I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association and strive to uphold their standards of professionalism and integrity. ----- How does developmental editing differ from copyediting? Developmental (sometimes called substantive) editing doesn't focus on correcting grammar errors, but rather takes a deep look into the story itself. A developmental editor checks for story flow, effectiveness, point of view, passive language, consistency, and areas where your story can be expanded on or polished so that it stays in the minds and hearts of readers. A copyeditor corrects technical details of a manuscript's writing content, such as grammar and spelling. These edits ensure your manuscript is ready for publishing or to send to an agent. Unlike developmental edits, story/plot content is not typically addressed during a copyedit. ----- Which type of editing do you need? Your book or story may require one more than the other, depending on myriad factors. Many stories require both services. If you're curious about the types of editing I offer and which might best serve your needs, please reach out to me!
