Throughout the course of my career as a middle school teacher and my more recent experience as a student at University of the People, I have discovered that society’s educational needs are evolving. Instead of cultivating experts in one subject matter, people of all ages and backgrounds need to have access to diverse knowledge that will help them build connections between seemingly unrelated content in order to think creatively and solve the complex problems of today. As a student at the University of the People, I have become proficient in consolidating information in a clear, concise manner for a variety of purposes. My time as a student has also encouraged me to develop effective communication skills and flexibility when working as part of a diverse team. Combining these skills with those that were necessary to instruct students of various reading abilities as an English Language Arts teacher provides me with the flexibility to work towards a variety of goals.
