Strategic Sourcing Quality Engineer
Looking to source manufactured components? Common problems in global sourcing include metric/imperial availability, incomplete RFQ packages, whether substitute material is actually equivalent, describing cosmetic finishes, and the usual cultural differences. I have end-to-end experience sourcing metal component parts around the world, designing new products, and managing an assembly plant. My approach to solving those problems is wholistic - taking into account the perspectives of all stakeholders and smoothing the sourcing adventure. -Provide feedback on strategic sourcing plan from the perspective of a manufacturing manager and contract manufacturer, taking into account both business and technical requirements. -Review drawings to assess what a supplier needs from a quality/process/equipment perspective, what the package may be missing, and whether a lower-cost process can be used. -Discuss with engineers what can be reasonably expected from process changes (mostly metal casting). -Create 3D models of legacy drawings and propose material substitutions if original material is obsolete. -Create a costing model and generative supplier feedback loop to identify spend reduction opportunities and use a data-driven approach to supplier capability.
