I am an experienced and dedicated professional with a PhD degree in Physiology. I have held various postdoctoral research positions - (1) from 2011-2013 under the supervision of leaders in the field of cardiovascular research; (2) from 2014-2016 in the obesity and metabolic syndrome field, and (3) in the diabetes arena. Due to my background in physiology and science and my years of experience during my graduate life and postdoctoral fellowships, I am confident that my expertise and knowledge on various physiologically relevant topics are a bonus. For the last 5 years, I have worked as a laboratory manager for Stellenbosch University (April 2019- June 2024), but due to financial constraints, I was let go. Some of the roles and responsibilities I was tasked with included, but are not limited tot the following: (1) creating technical documents such as work instructions for machinery or equipment manuals, health and safety manuals, as well as SOPs, (2) proofreading research articles to check for grammar, tone, and style, as well as scientific accuracy, (3) collaborating with researchers about their findings and co-authoring comprehensible papers for scientific publications, (4) retaining an awareness of student findings to spot emerging patterns in research areas of interest, troubleshooting and problem-solving, s well as to check that all SOPs are up to date. I also created and maintained project checklists for students and their assigned research studies, as well as maintained and updated chemical, reagent and consumable inventories. My skillset includes, but is not limited to, molecular biology, blood collection and analysis, PBMC isolation and experimentation, PCR, cell culture, animal experimentation, protein extraction, DNA extraction, as well as RNA extraction. I also have a thorough knowledge of various computer programs and an intense passion for science. My ability to effectively manage time and projects is impeccable, but I can also be adaptable and self-driven. Not only am I able to drive a project on my own, but I am also a team player with strong verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail. I can reason logically and comprehend complicated concepts and information, and can work well under pressure. Some of my accomplishments and qualifications include the following: 1) Authored articles on a wide range of scientific topics, including biology, physiology, cell-culture-based, animal-based and human-based topics. 2) Knowledgeable about the most recent trends and advancements in various subjects, especially physiology and pathophysiology. 3) Proficient at producing technical and non-academic writing. 4) Talent to simplify difficult scientific subjects into clear, helpful language while maintaining accuracy.
