Assem S.
Senior iOS / tvOS / watchOS / Roku Developer - Video Streaming & Ads
I build production software for Apple platforms (iOS, tvOS, and watchOS) and Roku. My focus is video streaming, playback, and ad insertion, on a broad foundation of Apple-platform engineering. Across an 18-year software career, 15+ of it on Apple platforms, I've shipped for Bell Crave, Warner Media, ViacomCBS, IBM, and Quber. A few examples of my work: - Delivered Roku development on the Bell Crave streaming platform in BrightScript and SceneGraph, tuning load times and navigation across device tiers. - Tech-led the video player component across the ViacomCBS suite (MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Noggin) on iOS and tvOS, and refactored ~35% of the shared codebase so each brand could extend it without breaking the others. - Built a lightweight HLS interstitial replacement for discontinuity ads via AVAssetResourceLoaderDelegate, parsing HLS manifests on the fly, opening a path to dropping a third-party ad SDK entirely. - Improved a watchOS app's battery life by 400%+ through a standalone design, HealthKit and location optimization, and removing memory leaks. - Integrated CSAI and SSAI ad insertion and analytics across client apps; added SharePlay and unit-test coverage. Streaming and ad insertion are where I go deepest, but they're a specialty, not a fence. I take on a range of Apple-platform contract work: app architecture, performance, complex UI, StoreKit, and more. Earlier on, I built the original Quber fintech app from scratch (users saved over $2M during beta) and worked for years as a 5-star iOS freelancer here on Upwork, with 22+ jobs and several multi-year clients. How I work: practical and honest. I'll tell you when something can't be done, or when a simpler approach saves you time and money. I'd rather scope a project realistically than oversell it. Available now for contract work.
