James P.
Data Operations Lead, PhD Linguistics
I finished my PhD in Linguistics in March of 2011. Since 2024, I have worked for an AI startup as Data Annotation Teams Lead and Data Operations Lead. I work closely with machine learning engineers and develop webapps to assist with benchmarking and quality control of evalsets, while overseeing annotation work. Before my work in AI, I worked for CNN International from 2021 - 2023 as a breaking news translator at their Ukraine war desk, translating Slavic languages to English and doing voice overs for the Erin Burnett show and others. In addition, over the past 20 years, I have strengthened my editing and translating skills working as a freelancer in Russian, French, Spanish. German, Serbian, Croatian, Turkish, Farsi, and Czech to English translation for a number of companies around the globe. Furthermore, I have worked for numerous academic publishers (including Brill, Emerald, etc.) on projects small and large. In total, I have edited around 200 published academic articles and over 50 academic volumes (of up to 900 pages) on a variety of topics, many historical and theological in nature. In 2019, I published my first book as lead editor, And Thus You are Everywhere Honored: Studies Dedicated to Brian D. Joseph.
