Kafka & Flink Engineer | Real-Time Data & Event-Driven Systems
I build real-time, event-driven systems that process financial transactions at scale without losing or duplicating a single event. For the past several years I've worked almost exclusively in the Kafka + Flink ecosystem — currently architecting a bank-grade streaming platform at ING (via Cognizant) that handles transactional and reconciliation data across core banking systems, with exactly-once guarantees and full schema evolution via Avro. Before that, I built a payments backbone from zero at a startup: Kafka + Flink pipeline handling ingestion → validation → ledger update → notification, where a duplicated event isn't a bug, it's a financial discrepancy. I owned that correctness problem end to end — idempotency, event ordering, reconciliation — as both the lead engineer and the person managing the team building on top of it. What I bring to a project: - Stream processing: stateful Flink pipelines, checkpointing, watermarking, exactly-once semantics - Kafka architecture: topic design, partitioning, consumer-group strategy, cluster tuning at production scale - Backend integration: Spring Boot microservices, Cassandra/Oracle dual-persistence, REST APIs - Data correctness: reconciliation frameworks, event sourcing, schema registry / Avro - 15+ years shipping production systems, from EU Commission enterprise platforms to healthcare MFA systems to fintech I also write technical content — I authored a bit-manipulation course with 3M+ developer reach (4.5/5 rating) and run javahandbook website, a Java ecosystem resource site. I explain systems clearly, which matters when I'm the one documenting the architecture your next engineer inherits.
