Translator, editor, and writer with background in math/science, coding

[Note: Almost all of my time is spent on documentation of the humanitarian crisis in Xinjiang - see the Xinjiang Victims Database at shahit.biz - resulting in very limited availability for much else. However, I should be available for some smaller part-time tasks (5-10 hours/week max) if you'd like to hire me.] Most of my freelancer experience is in translation. I almost always translate into English, as this is the only language I more or less master fully, having grown up in the United States and having done almost all my schooling in English. My native tongue is Russian, which I am fully comfortable in, though lacking the mastery of English as I did not go to school in it. I am also essentially fluent/proficient in - French (having learned it for around 8 years in school and having done 4 years of PhD study in Switzerland), - Mandarin Chinese (having used it since 2007, having lived in China or Taiwan for almost a decade, and using it daily in my documentation work), - Uyghur (having used it since 2008, having lived among Uyghurs for around 5 years, and having studied/researched it seriously for around a decade). I've done paid translation work for Russian/French/Chinese/Uyghur to English in various places and contexts over the past decade, and believe myself to be competent in this work (although I never got certified). My professional background is more technical. I did a 4-year bachelor's in chemical/mechanical engineering and 4 years of PhD study in math/optimization, meaning that I'm comfortable with technical topics, know how to navigate scientific literature, and am used to the rigorous quality checks required in academic scholarship. I have plenty of publication experience in academia, as well as plenty of intermediate-level coding experience. In my current work, I spend a lot of time working with text, and am used to doing English editing on a regular basis. I also work a lot with databases and spreadsheets, and am very comfortable in these environments. Finally, I am also proficient in pairing ChatGPT with API to make tools that automate GPT for bigger/repetitive tasks. Lastly, I also have plenty of experience in writing and, to some extent, in journalism, having published multiple articles in mainstream media outlets as well. So, if you need my help working with an article - be it editing, researching, drafting, or general feedback - then I should be able to do that also.
