Hi, I'm Isabel. I love languages and science. My native language is Spanish, I've been speaking French since I was 4 years old and English since I was 11. I graduated with honors from a French lycée in Colombia with a French high school degree with an emphasis on science (baccalauréat général série Scientifique). I studied medicine in France for two years, then came home and did six semesters more in med school. In my last semester there, a prep-course representative came to our campus to do a United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 practice test (in English). I got the highest score in my class and took the prep course for a year. So, I've studied medicine in French, Spanish, and English. Despite my high grades, and even though I still like the theoretical aspect of medicine, I realized that I wanted to relate to people differently as a professional. So, I decided to change my major to psychology, got a B.S. from a reputable university in Colombia, and then an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from an accredited university in the United States. For the application process to my master's degree program, I needed to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). I scored 102 out of 120, the equivalent of a C1 level. Then living in the U.S. for almost three years improved my English beyond that. I've always been an excellent student, having received awards and scholarships for it, and now I'm committed to giving you the best possible translation for your project. I never use automatic translators; I think they're a mess. When I translate, I'm mindful of inclusive language, check the different usages of the words, and look in specialized academic sources to ensure that I'm selecting the right word in context. If it interests you, I can let you know if I think there's a mistake or something to improve in the document that you provided. When I'm done translating the document, I read it again to proofread and see if words flow naturally in the target language. With my work as a translator, you will be able to: - read in your native language an academic article for a graduate course - analyze and discuss in class a video that wasn't subtitled - submit your original research work to international journals for publication - reach out to different populations with handouts written in their language - widen the audience of your website. I'm excited to see what kind of project you have for me. Let's have a chat!
